How to be successful before you turn 30

Hussain Elius, Neo Nie, Rashmi Kwatra. What do all these people have in common? They are some of those included in the 2019 edition of Forbes’ under 30 list. The success stories of entrepreneurs under the age of 30 are all by-products of a blend of talent and great work ethics. But age is just a number.

You too can draw inspiration from these young ones to one day achieve success. Combining talent with fierce work ethics to achieve greatness is precisely what these entrepreneurs under the age of 30 did.

Here are some of their success tips that you can adopt in your journey to success:

Stop giving yourself excuses

Giving yourself countless reasons why you couldn’t get things done or why you shouldn’t be doing specific tasks will only limit and prevent you from growing personally and professionally. Every successful person will share with you their secret to success; for you to be successful, you will first need to take control of your life. You need to realize that no one else is responsible for what happens in your life regardless of the outcome except yourself. When you do, that becomes the only way you can become successful because you dictate your own your life; no one else will.

Think long-term, not short-term

We should measure life in its entirety. You will often hear many successful people telling you that life is not a 100-meter race, but a life-long marathon. Plan your life six to 12 months in advance. The further you plan, the clearer your plan will be because you can already estimate the scenarios you will face and the solutions. No one will know what the future holds; however, if you have a clear vision of what it might look like, you will have a stronger possibility to overcome your short-term pain.

Dare to try

As a child, we are all born with the ability to shine. We are so intimidated by trying and have the fear of failing; we often opt to either take the safe route or worse still never attempt it. You need to realize that if you don’t try and make great opportunities, or allow your dreams to become realities, you will never truly unlock and unleash your real potential. So when you are in the next board meeting, and you have an idea or a suggestion mind, take the bold step and voice your thoughts. Remember, don’t be afraid to fail and succeed.

Surround yourself with high-achievers

Remember when we were younger, our parents always reminded us to pick and choose our friends wisely? Well, there is a reason why that advice makes a lot of sense. How successful you will be in your life ultimately comes down to the type of people you spend your time with. The kind of people you spend most of your time with will determine who you will become. If you spend your time with underachievers, you will most likely end up being an underachiever yourself. Likewise, if you only have time for successful and high-achieving people, you will be most likely to be successful yourself. Take a look at successful people like Barack Obama, Jack Ma or Mark Zuckerberg and their circles of friends, and you will notice that they only have quality and successful friends.

Building your network

On your journey to be successful, it is vital that you have an established network for your professional and personal development. In this modern day and age, networking is the key to your gateway of success. Be it as a channel to find jobs, friends, love or business opportunities, having wellestablished networks can bring you further in life. A quick tip on how you can become a great networker: make sure you listen while other people are speaking and always smile to set a good and memorable impression.
